Abstract

The Iberians, in their wars before the arrival of Amilcar Barca in 237 BC, did not use artillery or siege machines, or even practised formal siege warfare. Only in certain areas (such as Catalonia or Alicante) there are fortifications that show a limited knowledge of the advanced techniques of Mediterranean siege tactics. In the majority of cases, however, town walls were not designed to withstand a formal siege.
