L'Art Militaire en France au XIIIe Siècle

Le XIIIe est un grand siècle pour la France. L'Université de Paris. L'épanouissement de l'architecture et de la sculpture gothique. De nouveaux ordres religieux tels les Franciscains et les Dominicains. L'arrêt provisoire de la lutte contre les Plantagenêts. Tels sont, entre beaucoup d'autres, quelques aspects de cette époque de gloire de splendeur. Au point de vue militaire -armement, effectifs, fortifications, etc.- le siècle vit sur la lancée de Philippe-Auguste et le développement a lieu dans la direction tracée par le Capétien mort en 1223. Mais du fait même de ce développement, des aspects nouveaux apparaissent et il convient de les considérer dans leur ensemble, ne serait ce que pour réagir contre certaines exagérations des historiens.
