Military Equipment in the Byzantine Manuscript of Scylitzes in Biblioteca Nacional de Madrid

The purpose of the present paper is to provide an introduction to the military equipment of the Second Golden Age of the Byzantine empire as represented not by the text of Scylitzes but by the illuminators of this marvellous manuscript, the relations of the illuminations to the actual weapons and their chronology.
